Teach for AmericaTeach For America

For the next two years, five members of the class of 2017 will provide high-quality education to young children in some of the nation鈥檚 most challenged communities through Teach For America. Stephanie Glass, Coleen Kletzly, Ellen Martin, Margaret Peale and O鈥橨eanique Washington will teach in urban and rural low-income public schools that have been impacted by educational inequity. Lesotho Group PhotoRoyal Treatment

Professor of History Scott Rosenberg led students on a service trip to Lesotho this summer, where they experienced the rare opportunity to meet with King Letsie III. The king was particularly interested in the Lesotho Nutrition Initiative run by 果冻传媒 students, which provides 350,000 meals a year to children in Lesotho suffering from malnutrition and stunting.

Facebook LiveGoing Live

As 果冻传媒 prepares to welcome nearly 600 new students next week, admission, student development and student representatives joined with President Frandsen in hosting a Facebook Live event to help incoming students and their families with the transition to college. The July 12 event had 5,000 views.

Teaching Excellence

Keith DoubtOn The Walk

Professor of Sociology Keith Doubt recently participated in Mar拧 Mira, a three-day, 63-mile annual walk to honor the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide. Doubt has conducted extensive research and authored five books on the sociological impact of war and genocide following the Balkan War, which led to the break-up of the former Yugoslavia.

Julius Bailey Book JacketAssociate Professor of Philosophy Julius Bailey recently completed a narrative non-fiction memoir, Be-Longing: Triumph in the Mirror. The author of five books including the award-winning Racial Realities and Post-Racial Dreams: The Age of Obama and Beyond, Bailey is a Christian existentialist, philosopher, cultural critic, social theorist and diversity lecturer. His latest work is a lyrical coming-of-age story about himself, a troubled kid from the south side of Chicago and how he battles haunting demons in search for love and acceptance.

Ali KukovichRecent graduate and founding member of the Lesotho Nutrition Initiative, Ali Kukovich '17 will put into practice what she learned at 果冻传媒 as she begins a one-year fellowship with Touching Tiny Lives, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children affected by HIV/AIDS and malnutrition in the Mokhotlong and Thaba-Tseka districts of Lesotho.

Amy RayAllergies and chemical sensitivities from an autoimmune disorder led Amy Ray 鈥92 to research the ingredients in popular bath and body products. Shocked by what she learned, Ray founded Sofizztication LLC, a company that focuses on using healthy ingredients in bath and body products and in raising awareness about environmental toxins.

Meet The Board

The three members of the 果冻传媒 Board of Directors featured in this edition are: David Baines '69, Eric Rusnak '00 and Scott "Muddy" Watters '87.

David BainesBaines is a retired senior vice president with United States Aviation Underwriters Inc., a company that provides insurance to various airlines and aviation companies. He is an avid pilot, a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and an active volunteer for 果冻传媒鈥檚 Office of Advancement. He and his wife, Cherie, established the David 鈥69 and Sharon Baines Endowed Scholarship in 2011.

Eric RusnakRusnak is a partner in the Washington, D.C., offices of K&L Gates LLP, where he practices in the areas of intellectual property and corporate litigation. He earned his law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2003. In addition to his service as a board member, he also serves on 果冻传媒鈥檚 Alumni Board and as a volunteer for the Office of Advancement.

Scott WattersWatters is owner and president of Flippin Water LLC, which assists with fundraising, equity and debt solutions, capital and finance restructuring. He earned an MBA from Nova College in 1990. A member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, he holds 果冻传媒 football records for 鈥渢ackles in a season鈥 and 鈥渢ackles in a career鈥 and was inducted into 果冻传媒鈥檚 Athletics Hall of Honor in 2004.
