As 果冻传媒 prepares to welcome its new president, Dr. Michael Frandsen, on July 1, Interim President Dick Helton takes a few moments to offer his thanks and reflect on the past 18 months at the helm. "To say that I have enjoyed my time at 果冻传媒 鈥 and the opportunity to get to know each and every one of you 鈥 is an understatement. It has been a joy and honor to be a part of this family."


NCAA Golf ChampsBest of the Best

Ranked No. 10 in the country in the GCAA Poll, 果冻传媒鈥檚 men鈥檚 golf team won the NCAA Division III National Championship, the first in the university鈥檚 history. The women's golf team also performed well, placing third at the same championship. Additionally, Head Coach Jeff Roope was named a finalist for National Coach of the Year honors.


Hannah McCartneyDigging Ireland

Hannah McCartney, class of 2018 from Greenville, Ohio, will spend a month in Trim, Ireland, this summer after being accepted into the Blackfriary Program, a community archaeology project that focuses on the excavation of a 13th century Friary. A history major and archaeology minor, McCartney will attend lectures, conduct research and learn excavation methods.

Swati ShivshankarTop 30 Under 30

Swati Shivshankar 鈥13, a senior brand planner and strategist at OgilvyOne Worldwide in India, was recently named to IMPACT鈥檚 Top 30 Under 30 India, which recognizes the 30 most talented individuals under the age of 30 in Indian creative, media and digital agencies. Not long after, she also was selected as one of India鈥檚 Top Digital Planners.

Global Expertise

LockersAssociate Professor of History Christian Raffensperger鈥檚 expertise on Medieval Europe found its way into a recent Twitter debate between Russia and Ukraine. Raffensperger is a founding member of the editorial board for the journal, The Medieval Globe, which brings scholarly interconnectivity to our modern understanding of the medieval world. Additionally, Raffensperger serves as an associate of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute.

Art in Clouds

LockersOutdoorPainter.com, the online home of PleinAir Magazine, published a feature this spring that focuses on the work of Professor of Art Ed Charney. Charney's artwork has been featured in several galleries across the country, including

the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio, Waterloo Art Museum in Waterloo, Iowa, Gallery 100 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Union Street Gallery in Chicago Heights, Ill., Gallery Alexy in Philadelphia, Pa., and Chatahoochee Valley Art Museum in LaGrange, Ga.

Michael PangburnT. Michael Pangburn 鈥83 was recently honored with a Burton Foundation 2017 Distinguished Writing Award, one of the most prestigious distinctions in the legal profession. Pangburn currently handles litigation defense and franchise employment and contract issues for Thor Motor Coach Inc., Airstream Inc., Postle Operating LLC and the motorized divisions of Jayco Inc.

Derrick BrazielDerrick Braziel 鈥09, co-founder of MORTAR Cincinnati with William Thomas '07, has been named a 2017 Black Male Achievement Fellow by Echoing Green. MORTAR Cincinnati is a non-profit dedicated to providing opportunities for underrepresented entrepreneurs to start and sustain businesses and offers nine-week training courses to help current residents build entrepreneurial skills and grow their own businesses.


Meet The Board

A new feature in Tiger Tales, this month's Board members are Doug Kentfield 鈥78, Sarah Hagen McWilliams 鈥88 and Fred B. Mitchell 鈥69.

Doug KentfieldThe managing director-divisional director for the Western Division of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Kentfield successfully merged Morgan Stanley and Smith Barney's wealth management organizations into a single culture and platform while simultaneously driving revenue and profitability gains. Doug earned his M.B.A. in marketing/finance from Drexel University. He has served on the 果冻传媒 Board of Directors since 2008 with additional service on the Audit & Compliance and Enrollment & Marketing Committees.

Sarah Hagen McWilliamsMcWilliams worked for several years as a non-profit fundraiser and grant writer with the Bath County Historical Society. She and her husband worked for many years as the owners and proprietors of The Inn at Gristmill Square in Warm Springs, Va. Sarah holds a master鈥檚 degree in social work from Case Western Reserve University. In addition to serving on the 果冻传媒 Board of Directors for nine years, she has been an active volunteer for the Office of Advancement. She is the daughter of Susan Hirt Hagen 鈥57 and granddaughter of H. Orth Hirt 鈥11.

Fred MitchellFor much of his career, Mitchell worked as a beat writer for the Chicago Tribune, covering the Cubs, Bills and Bears and earning numerous awards for outstanding sportswriting. He is the author of numerous books including biographies of Hall of Famers Gale Sayers, Richard Dent, Ryne Sandberg and Billy Williams. A record-setting place kicker at 果冻传媒, Fred was inducted into 果冻传媒鈥檚 Athletic Hall of Honor in 1995. He has served on the Board of Directors for nine years and has been active with Concerned Black Students and The Torch.
