The nerves have settled, our seat-ridden bones have been released from the imprisonment that is our bodies. We have arrived in a beautiful Johannesburg's summer night, the bright hotel lights illuminate our star-stricken but fascinated faces at the amusement of what Africa will have to offer... or more importantly, what we can offer.
Our bodies begin to stir at five AM South African time, it's ten PM at home and with the change in time our eyes are wide open. Despite jet lag and over 20 hours of traveling behind us we are wide awake and excited. Moving into the van we begin an 8 hour journey through South Africa into Lesotho. A mix of palm trees and cacti line the highway as we all gasp when a car seemingly going the wrong way passes. As we wind our way up the mountain toward our hotel, the rubber of the tires burn resisting the weight of our luggage. Just as it seems we won't make it, we drive through a gate into our hotel and are overtaken by the overwhelming beauty of our surroundings. Stiff and achey, we walk toward a cliff to awe at the beauty of nature in a landscape unlike one we've ever seen. We have arrived, we are rested, and we are ready to begin.
After a good nights rest our adventure at 8:30 at a preschool in need of a new playground. We have met some of the locals, but we are all ready and enthusiastically awaiting more Besotho/South African friends ready to embark on this personal pilgrimage.
