Lesotho 2024: Getting To Work!
Hello! Today I went to paint the preschool. When I got there, my buddy was missing, and I was disappointed. I had just started to paint when two of the kids yelled for her to come see me. She came and had the biggest smile on her face when she saw me. She kept peeking at me through the window while we painted. I was able to play music which was nice. I held down our scaffolds while one of the other girls painted. We had our first language lesson today! I brought my book so I could look at the phrases and talk to the kids. My friend finally learned my name once I introduced myself in Sesotho!
-Emma Gearhart,
Hey! The other half of our group went to the Habitat4Humanity site. Joined by the Lesotho Youth Labor Camp, we started the construction of a new house for a family whose home was no longer adequate to support them. With a hole in the side and the roof caving in, we started the construction of the new one using mortar and cinder blocks. By the end of the day, the house walls were about 4 feet tall with around 5-6 layers of cinder block and the ground was patted down and prepared for concrete. H4H told us that we were ahead of schedule and that the plan is to lay down the floor tomorrow!
