Innovative communication/business program celebrates 10 years of producing industry leaders

Springfield, Ohio 鈥 On Saturday, Oct. 8, a selected group of students and alumni came together under a common purpose: to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Communication and Business Leadership Experience (CABLE).

Originally titled Communication Leaders (CL), CABLE is a professional development opportunity open to communication and business majors and minors. As part of the program, students learn how to present themselves professionally, network with communication practitioners in a variety of fields, conduct research and present recommendations to those professionals, and ultimately create a smoother transition for themselves into their career after graduating from 果冻传媒.

鈥淚 joined CABLE because of the doors it can open,鈥 Megan Bobbitt 鈥17 explained.  鈥淚t's bridging the gap between undergrad and professional life, and everyone could use a little help and advice during that process no matter how ready you feel.鈥

After submitting an application, including a resume and personal statement, students interview with the program鈥檚 co-directors, Karen Reynolds, CABLE co-founder, and Tim Bode, assistant professor of business, as well as a current CABLE student. This year鈥檚 group of 11 joins 107 graduates of the program, all of whom participated in the program between the years 2007-2016.

鈥淚 have already gained a tremendous amount of advice regarding my career and have been able to learn what type of work environment I will most enjoy,鈥 said Stephanie Glass 鈥17.  鈥淭his kind of experience will help me to stand out in the job market and to feel more comfortable with the tasks that will be required of me in the workplace.鈥

To celebrate the 10th anniversary, CABLE will be hosting a reception beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the lower atrium of the Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center.

鈥淭he theme of this year, and the event itself is 鈥楨nable CABLE,鈥欌 Glass said. 鈥淭he idea behind this is that all students who have participated in CABLE have been enabled in some way, whether it be personal growth, professional growth, networking, or finding a company for which they are excited to work. So much of business is relationship-oriented, and events such as this allow us to build relationships with the wide net of alumni who have participated in this program.鈥

鈥淲e also have a large amount of alumni coming back with a wide variety of professions,鈥 Bobbitt added.  鈥淭hey are coming back to celebrate CABLE because it has meant a lot to them, so I am really excited to hear their stories. A lot of them have cited the skills and experience CABLE has given them.鈥
