Xavier Davenport, Class of 2018
Major: Music, Physics, and Chinese
Hometown: Richwood, Ohio
1. Guitar
- Trained as a classical guitarist, Xavier has borrowed a professor's guitar while at 果冻传媒. He earned a generous music scholarship from the department of music, making a 果冻传媒 education possible for him. His musical talents earned him an invitation to perform at President Frandsen's Inauguration reception in April.
2. Ramen bowl
- Because of his very busy schedule, Xavier always leans to Ramen noodles for a fast and easy meal.
3. Pipa
- Xavier received his pipa through a research grant. He found that 果冻传媒 was one of the few colleges where he could combine his passion for music and his love of the Chinese language as majors. He has been working on a translation of a Chinese music book that he would like to eventually publish.
4. Presentation poster
- Xavier recently presented this research poster for the Division of Nuclear Physics at a meeting of the American Physical Society in Pittsburgh, Pa.
5. Music folder
- Since the fall of his sophomore year, Xavier has spent a lot of time working on a five-movement composition that features a duet with a guitar and soprano saxophone. With a nod to his interest in science, he named the piece The Alchemy Suite for Classical Guitar and Soprano Saxophone. Having made a studio recording of the piece, he hopes to one day publish his work.
6. Passport
- Xavier has been accepted to Jiao Tong University in Taiwan where he will attend a two-year graduate program in electrophysics. After that, he plans to return to the United States to pursue a doctoral degree.
7. Textbook
- Xavier bought this text 鈥渇or fun鈥 because he eventually wants to get involved with quantum computing, a field he says not many people specialize in.
