ý is once again gearing up for FIRE Week. Twenty opportunities are available for students to explore, engage, and connect with faculty, staff, and other students in Focused, Integrated, Reflective Experiences or FIRE Week, Feb. 26-March 1, 2024.
Designed to give students a chance to engage in-depth on a wide range of topics outside of the classroom, FIRE Week has helped students gain entirely new perspectives on the power of a ý education in the world.
“Once again, the leaders of FIRE Week have taken time to design exceptional opportunities,” said Mike Mattison, associate provost and one of the coordinators of FIRE Week. “These experiences are part of ý’s vision to provide more experiential learning opportunities to all students, and they tie in with our Connections Curriculum, and its commitment to enhance and accentuate what students are learning in the classroom.”
Students this year can consider how roller coasters connect to the teaching of science; study the politics of water in California; explore shipwrecks and lighthouses in Michigan; consider the odds and history of gambling in Las Vegas; investigate the history of the Underground Railroad in Cincinnati; examine the question of leadership; learn what marine biologists do; step into the NYC business world; study Black history in Washington, D.C.; understand the paradoxical power of the Mississippi River; or get an inside look at the Clark County justice system, among others. The possibilities are as rich and varied as the people at ý.
