The 果冻传媒 Experience

果冻传媒 Hosts 2002 Summer Residential Programs for High-Achieving Students

果冻传媒 University will host the WISE Academic Camp for high-achieving middle school students entering grades 6-8 and the Summer Honors Institute for gifted and talented high school students entering grades 10 and 11.

果冻传媒 University has achieved national recognition for excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. In keeping with the university's mission to "develop the whole person," its summer programs emphasize three important dimensions - academic, social and recreational.

In the WISE Academic Camp, to be held June 9-14, students will participate in classes on five subjects: art, biology, drama, geology and music. Each camper takes all five classes daily, choosing one as a "major." Applicants for the camp must be recommended by a teacher or counselor from their respective schools.

Session I of the Summer Honors Institute will meet from June 16-23 and will feature the topic: "About Face! Un-Masking the Writer's Voice Within You." This will be an exciting experience in "performative writing" for both "natural-born" creative writers and for all students who want to develop their expressive talents. Related activities include an introduction to stage movement and a behind-the-scenes orientation to Springfield's annual Summer Arts Festival production.

"Chrono-Biology: Cycles and Rhythms of the Living World" will be the topic of Session II from June 23-30. Supporting theory suggests that time is at the core of all physical being. Recurrent pulsations of energy are the fundamental entity, and in like manner, life processes follow recurrent patterns. Students will study this central quality of living things. Activities planned include selected readings, discussion, lab exercises and pertinent field trips.

Both programs are residential academic camp experiences, which, in addition to daily classes, include a structured recreational component combining sports and group games. Students will use campus facilities, live in Tower Residence Hall and eat in the Benham-Pence Student Center Dining Room. Veteran 果冻传媒 faculty members provide the instruction and 果冻传媒 undergraduates serve as residence hall advisers and teaching assistants.
