A 果冻传媒 Tradition

Candlemas Service Set

果冻传媒 University's Medieval Candlelight Service celebrating Candlemas, the last of the Christmas festivities, will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2 in Weaver Chapel. The service is free and open to the public.

Marking the presentation of Jesus in the Temple 40 days after his birth, the Candlemas tradition is an ancient one. With this in mind, the service will use music, vestments and symbols which reflect a medieval celebration.

Wind In The Woods, an instrumental ensemble, and Schola Cantorum, a men's liturgical ensemble, will provide the music. Pre-service music will begin at 7:45 p.m. Anders Tune, pastor to the university, will be the liturgist and preacher.

Candles for use in Weaver Chapel during the coming year will be blessed as part of the procession. Those wishing to bring candles from home for blessing are welcome to do so.
